consonus vokalensemble: the pursuit of musical perfection and an unbridled passion for singing – together, harmoniously and at the highest level! This is the credo of the ensemble, which is made up of experienced professional and amateur singers from the regions of Grisons, Eastern Switzerland, Lucerne and Zurich. While music and choral singing are the main focus, the sociable aspects of a choir also have their place at consonus.
The vocal ensemble, which is organised in the legal form of an association, is is conducted by the young musician Mauro Ursprung. On the one hand, he brings a lot of energy and fresh ideas, but on the other hand he already has a great deal of experience as a conductor and pianist. He is supported by the two musicians Jessica Marty (co-conductor) and Norma Widmer (choral voice training). Gian-Reto Trepp is responsible for the organisation and administration of the choir. As a business economist, he has the necessary knowledge and experience in both general and project management. He is supported by an honorary board consisting of singers of the choir. The ensemble is a member of the Swiss Federation Europa Cantat (SFEC) and the choral association of the canton of Grisons.
consonus vokalensemble works on a project basis, whereby the members undertake to practice the pieces intensively in advance of rehearsals. Only thanks to the individual work can the high musical goals be achieved, whereby singing by heart without exception holds a special challenge. During the joint rehearsal period, the possibility of bringing the voices together must be used, whereby the choir can further develop its own sound.
The musical spectrum of consonus vokalensemble is broad: Works from different cultures, styles and epochs are sung. There is no thematic delimitation, because depending on the project a different musical focus is set. The ensemble attaches great importance to innovative forms of presentation so that the music can develop optimally. This includes the use of choreographic elements as well as support through appropriate technical effects. In addition to its own concerts, the ensemble also aims to participate in national and international competitions. In October 2017 consonus vokalensemble took part in the 10th Swiss Choir Competition and won in the category A2 with 60 out of 60 possible points. In June 2018 the ensemble achieved the highest score of 6 at the choir competition of the canton of Grisons. At the World Choir Games in July 2018, which took place in Tshwane (Pretoria), South Africa, the ensemble won gold medals in all three categories (Mixed Chamber Choirs, Musica sacra a cappella, Spiritual) and was placed among the world’s best choirs. In August 2019 consonus vocal ensemble travelled to Gothenburg to participate in the Grand Prix of Nations of the European Choir Games, where again they won gold medals in all categories: “Musica sacra a cappella” and “Mixed Chamber Choirs”.
The main goal of consonus vokalensemble, however, remains to take the audience into new worlds with its choral sound and to create an unforgettable concert experience!
